Training

 This training supports assessors to strengthen their understanding of culturally safe assessment practice when working with First Nations carers and families. Participants will explore how to identify and understand culture within everyday family life, ask meaningful and culturally responsive questions, and confidently embed cultural information throughout assessment reports. The training provides practical tools to support culturally informed, strengths-based and reflective assessment practice. 

 This one-day training supports assessors, practitioners, carers and applicants to develop a deeper understanding of the Queensland Standards of Care through a cultural lens. Recognised as a vital framework within the child protection system, this workshop explores how the Standards of Care can be applied in culturally safe, meaningful and practical ways. Through engaging Aboriginal-led teaching, storytelling and truth-telling, participants will strengthen their understanding of culturally responsive practice and gain knowledge that can be applied across a range of child protection and care roles. 

 This training supports participants to deepen their understanding of the history, experiences and resilience of First Nations peoples and communities. Moving beyond generic cultural awareness sessions, the workshop explores the impacts of colonisation, both past and present, through storytelling, truth-telling and reflective practice. Participants will gain greater insight into the cultural, historical and social factors that continue to influence the lives of First Nations peoples while building the knowledge and confidence to engage in culturally respectful and responsive ways.  

 This training supports participants to develop meaningful, child-centred Cultural Plans that strengthen connection to family, culture, community and identity. Participants will learn what information to include, where to source cultural information and how to identify age-appropriate and gender-responsive cultural activities and opportunities. The workshop explores both the importance of Cultural Plans and the practical steps required to develop them effectively. Participants will leave with a comprehensive Cultural Plan template and the knowledge to create plans that go beyond compliance, serving as practical tools that guide decision-making, cultural connection and everyday practice for children, families, carers and professionals. 

 This training supports participants to develop the knowledge and skills required to create comprehensive kinship maps that identify extended family, significant relationships and generational connections. Participants will explore First Nations kinship systems and family structures, gaining insight into the intricate and meaningful relationships that shape families, communities and cultural identity. Through Aboriginal-led teaching, storytelling and practical application, participants will enhance their understanding of kinship networks and learn how kinship mapping can support culturally informed decision-making, family-led planning and the identification of potential kinship care options. 

 This training equips participants with the knowledge and skills to confidently facilitate the Tree of Life tool, a strengths-based approach designed to support children and young people to explore their identity, strengths, hopes and personal experiences. The Tree of Life encourages self-awareness, resilience and positive self-perception while helping practitioners build deeper, more meaningful connections with children. Upon completion, participants will be equipped to train and mentor others in the use of the Tree of Life methodology, supporting its application across a range of settings and enhancing positive outcomes for children and young people. 

 This training supports practitioners to strengthen their understanding of culturally safe case management when working with First Nations children, young people, families and communities. Participants will explore how culture, identity, family, kinship and community connections can be meaningfully embedded throughout the case management process. Through Aboriginal-led teaching, storytelling and reflective practice, participants will develop practical skills to build respectful relationships, support self-determination and deliver culturally responsive services that promote positive outcomes for First Nations children and families.  

 This training provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate Family-Led Decision Making (FLDM) processes that place children, families and communities at the centre of decision-making. Participants will explore the role of the facilitator in creating safe and respectful spaces where families can come together, contribute to case planning and develop solutions that support the safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes of children and young people. Through Aboriginal-led teaching, reflective practice and practical strategies, participants will learn how to engage families authentically, listen deeply, collaborate genuinely and ensure the voices of children and families remain central throughout the decision-making process. 

 Fostering Pathways – Culture, Country and Community is a culturally led training program designed to support foster and kinship carers to strengthen their understanding of the First Nations children and young people in their care. Delivered in small online group sessions, the program provides a safe and supportive space for carers to explore culture, identity, kinship, community connections and the importance of Country. Through Aboriginal-led teaching, storytelling and practical discussions, carers will develop the knowledge, confidence and tools to support cultural connection, promote belonging and create culturally safe environments that help children thrive.
