Cultural Support Plans

Mullah Mara Together facilitates Family Group Meetings that bring children, families, kin, carers, Elders and significant community members together to develop culturally appropriate, child-focused and strengths-based case plans. Our approach recognises that families and communities hold valuable knowledge, cultural wisdom and solutions that support the safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes of children and young people. Through culturally safe and trauma-informed facilitation, we create respectful spaces where families are empowered to actively participate in decision-making, strengthen kinship connections and contribute to planning that reflects the child’s cultural identity, relationships, needs and sense of belonging. Our Family Group Meetings aim to promote collaboration, self-determination and sustainable support networks while ensuring the voices of children, families and communities remain central throughout the planning process.

Cultural Support Plans

Mullah Mara Together develops culturally responsive Cultural Support Plans that strengthen and maintain a child or young person’s connection to family, community, culture and identity. Our plans are developed collaboratively with children, families, carers, Elders, community members and professionals to ensure each child’s cultural needs, relationships and sense of belonging remain central to their care and planning. Cultural Support Plans provide practical guidance for carers on how to actively support cultural connection through everyday experiences, community engagement, family relationships, cultural activities and connection to Country. The plans also outline the roles and responsibilities of professionals, carers and support networks in maintaining and strengthening the child’s cultural identity and cultural rights. Importantly, Cultural Support Plans provide children and young people with meaningful information about their family, mob, community and cultural story, supporting identity development, pride, belonging and lifelong cultural connection.

Kinship Mapping

Mullah Mara Together provides Kinship Mapping services that support professionals to develop comprehensive and culturally informed understandings of a child or young person’s family, kinship systems, community connections and cultural networks. Our approach recognises the importance of identifying meaningful relationships and culturally significant connections that may support the child’s safety, identity, belonging and long-term wellbeing. Through engagement with family members, Elders and community supports, Kinship Mapping assists professionals to gather information about the child’s mob, family structure, cultural connections and relational supports, while ensuring cultural protocols and family systems are respectfully acknowledged. The process also supports professionals to identify and recognise potential kinship care options and culturally appropriate support networks that may assist in maintaining family and cultural connection for the child or young person. This work promotes more informed decision-making, culturally responsive planning and stronger opportunities for children and young people to remain connected to family, community, culture and Country.
